Mertens Denied the Rumor Reunite with Sarri

DBasia.news – Napoli striker Dries Mertens admits that he still wants to play under his former coach, Maurizio Sarri. He also opens the possibility to join Sarri squad someday.

Under Sarri, Mertens was one of the respected strikers in the Serie A. The Belgium striker could score 67 goals from 135 caps with Sarri for three seasons.

“I love it here. But maybe in one year, I’m free, so maybe you never know, maybe Sarri is going to call me. We will see,” Mertens said.

“‘Sarri does not have an off button. I think he sleeps one hour a night and he is always thinking about football. I learnt a lot from him,” he added.

Mertens thinks Sarri’s strategy made Napoli seems like performing with 12 players. He said the distance between the striker and midfielder was so close and he could pass the ball easily.

“The thing I loved most about him is that you feel you are playing with 12, not 11. He puts the line very high so the strikers feel the midfielders are close. I’m sure now Sarri is learning things about London.”
