DBasia.news – Neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo won the 2018 Ballon d’Or, Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric instead. His success ended the domination of Ronaldo-Messi for the last decade.
The public opinion is twisted: some support Modric and some others reject it. Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet couldn’t help to be involved in that debate.
Lenglet has a neutral opinion. He still thinks Messi as the best player in the world, with or without the award. But on the other hand, he also thinks Modric deserved it after achieving the Champions League title for Real Madrid in three consecutive times and brought Croatia national team to the 2018 World Cup for the first time of all time.
“As a footballer, there is no better player than Leo Messi, but this year Modric and some French players also deserved also a prize,” Lenglet said in Marca.
“If you take the year into account, I understand Ballon d’Or award a little more, but if you have to choose the best player, for me, there is no doubt.”
“The French had an incredible World Cup, but Modric reached the World Cup final and won the Champions League. He is a great player and I think he also deserves the Ballon d’Or,” the French defender concluded.
