DBasia.news – Manchester United’s performance might be inconsistent during the four initial matches of Premier League: two winnings, two consecutive loss. But from the four matches, the public couldn’t ignore the career revival of the British 23-year-old left defender, Luke Shaw.
Mourinho always sent him as the starter during the four recent matches, and he always performed consistently. Not only quick and discipline while defending, Shaw was the threat for opponent’s defense through the penetration, cross passing, and passing in the opponent’s third line. He scored one goal in this season’s Premier League.
The impact of his great performance is the call-up into England national team by Gareth Southgate, to play in the UEFA Nations League against Spain and Switzerland. Shaw’s career revival showed his strong mentality after criticized during two past years by injuries, inconsistency, and Mourinho’s never-ending critics publicly.
At glance, Mourinho seemed like humiliating his player in front of the public. But in fact, that’s how he motivated the player. Now, Shaw understands that. He admitted that Mourinho never had the intention to sell him because he put the trust that he will perform well this season.
“He (Mourinho) put his trust in me at the start of the season. I think at times if he didn’t trust me it would’ve been easy for him to say he wanted to sell me. I think he always believed in me and I always believed in myself and just needed to get back to what I needed to do,” Shaw said reported by Goal, Wednesday (5/9).
“He’s played a big part but I’ve done a lot too to get back into his team and earn his trust back. It’s been a tough two years but mentally it’s made me stronger and made me want to prove to him that I can do what sometimes in the last couple of seasons he said I couldn’t,” the Southampton alumnus added.
For now, Man United have the grant from one prominent left defender for Mourinho. Now, Mourinho just needs to find the duet of central defender that he can rely on. Similarly, the right defensive line is only guarded by Antonio Valencia, not a full-back player.
