No Guarantee That Sergio Busquets Will Become a Starter or Regular Player for the Spanish National Team

DBasia.news – Sergio Busquets’ role as a regulator for Barcelona’s midfield may not be replaced. However, this does not apply to the Spanish national team.

Spain national team coach Luis Enrique is reluctant to guarantee Busquets to always play in every match. This also applies to the 2020 European Cup which has been postponed until next year.

So far, Busquets is considered one of the important foundations in the game scheme of Barcelona and the Spanish national team. He is the person responsible for setting the tempo of the team play.

However, the performance starts to decline with age. The number of talented young midfielders who have come to the surface is increasingly threatening Busquets’ position.

“If Busquets maintains a level like the last eleven years, he will be in the European Cup. If he plays him, we will see,” Enrique said as quoted by Goal.

“He’s a veteran and he’s the first to know how it goes. In the end, there will come a time where age is important for everything because nobody has spent 28 years in the national team.”

Busquets’ game has tended to decline in the last two seasons due to the poor performance shown by Barcelona. He couldn’t even do much when the Blaugrana were crushed by Bayern Munich with a score of 2-8 in the Champions League quarter-finals last season.

However, the 32-year-old’s performance started to improve again at the start of this season. The 4-2-3-1 scheme applied by Ronald Koeman made his potential out to the maximum.

A place in the Spanish national team squad for the European Cup is likely to belong to Busquets if he is able to bring Barcelona to the title at the end of this season. A thing that still has to be proven by him.
