Petr Cech Returns from Retirement, Will Strengthen Chelsea U-23

DBasia.news – Veteran Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech prepares to return to the football pitch for the match between the Blues and Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League 2.
The former Czech Republic international decided to hang up his gloves at the end of the 2018/19 season, after spending four seasons with Arsenal, rivals Chelsea, a club that has made his name for more than a decade.
Chelsea then took the public by storm last October when they announced Cech, now 38, as one of their registered goalkeepers for the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.
And now he will be back in action for the west London team, first with Chelsea’s reserve squad.
Cech is currently the fifth goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge, which means there is little chance for him to play for the first team.
However, he has continued to train with the team, having returned to Chelsea as technical advisor and under form under former team-mate and current manager Frank Lampard.
“It’s true that it would be a professional mistake to do this [coming back from retirement] if I wasn’t at Premier League level, but that’s not how we work here,” the Chelsea legend told Telefoot regarding his return to the first team in November.
“I know I am 100 percent ready to help if needed. I am in charge and with two months of training, I have found that I still have the same qualities.”
“Furthermore, I rested for a year without playing football. It really gave me energy, my body recovered after playing 20 years as a professional. If the situation calls for me to be on the pitch, I’m ready.”
