Raheem Sterling believes racism is the only disease today
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Manchester City football player and England national team player, Raheem Sterling on Sunday confirmed that racism is the only disease at the moment.
The 25-year-old player, who often speaks out about discrimination, admits his statement may be false as the world is currently fighting the corona virus pandemic.
“I know this might sound a bit cheap, but the only disease at the moment is the racism that we are fighting for,” Sterling said in an interview with BBC TV reported on Monday.
Sterling is the latest sports star to protest against racism in the United States and around the world after George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis last month.
“This is the most important thing at the moment because this is something that has happened for years. Just like a pandemic, we want to find a solution to stop it,” he added.
“At the same time, this is what all these protesters are doing. They are trying to find solutions and ways to stop the injustices they see and they are fighting for their cause.”
“As long as they do it peacefully and safely, not hurting anyone or breaking into the stores, they can do it this peaceful way.”
Sterling is keen to fight for the matter. Even last year he suggested to players not to get out of the field in the event of racial harassment.
The former Liverpool player believes it is time to speak for real change in society and in the world of professional football. Moreover, the incident has been going on for years. “This is something that needs to be more than just talking. We have to really implement change and highlight places that do need change,” Sterling concluded.
