Rarely playing Barcelona’s young Players, Setien Feel awry

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Barcelona is currently considered to no longer rely on their young players, especially the La Masia academy players. Blaugrana’s coach, Quique Setien, feels awry about this condition.

If Barcelona had successfully produced players like Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Xavi Hernandes, and Lionel Messi, in the last few years there have not been any new La Masia academy graduates.

This season, many young Barcelona players have graduated from La Masia, but have rarely been played in the first team. Namely Riqui Puig, Ansu Fati, Ronald Araujo and Alex Collado. Ansu Fati is the only one that occasionally appeared and was able to steal the show.

A few have shifted their concerns to the coach as a person who is responsible for this. However, Barcelona architect, Quique Setien actually mentioned that the club plays a big role on why coaches are reluctant to give opportunities to young talent.

Setien instead gave criticism back to the club regarding the long-term plan. “Giving young players more opportunities should not just be my job.”

“This should be the club’s bet when planning a season,” Setien said as reported by Marca.

“If you recruit the five best players in the world in its position, it will be difficult to make room for young players.”

Not only that, the demand to always win has also made the coach not willing to take risks.

“We want to win everything, to compete, but also want a 17-year-old to play like someone who has won in the World Cup,” Setien added.

“Now everyone wants to win, but if I lose four young players and don’t win, they will fire me,” Setien continued.

The desire to win has made Barcelona always try to recruit the best players in the world. “If we recruit players that everyone wants and win, people will be happy, but young players will have no place,” Setien added.
