Reason Why Bordeaux Cancel to Appoint Thierry Henry As the Coach

DBasia.news – Before the 2018/2019 Ligue 1, it was rumored that Thierry Henry will be the coach of Bordeaux. The story starts when the US investment company, GACP, purchased Bordeaux. As known, GACP wanted Henry to be the successor of Gustavo Poyet.

The negotiation went well. But Bordeaux announced on August, Hendry won’t be the coach. As a compensation, the team recruited the Brasilian coach Ricardo Gomes.

It was also rumored that Aston Villa approached Henry. But after the cancellation of his deal with Bordeaux, the Belgium national team coach assistant Roberto Martinez in the 2018 World Cup, didn’t choose any team.

Now, he is still working for the Belgium national team. “In each business, whether it be a football team, a shop or an insurance company, there are business plans,” head of GACP, Joe DaGrosa, told L’Equipe.

“And sometimes that involves taking difficult decisions. We had hoped to reach an agreement with Thierry Henry, but sometimes reasonable people can disagree. That’s what happened.”

“I have a lot of respect for him. He was a great player and he has a very interesting career plan, but we took a financial decision and not an emotional one,” DaGrosa added.

It is believed Bordeaux canceled to recruit Henry due to some request. But, DaGrosa denies this rumor.

“Thierry Henry perhaps had a bad impression of our talks but at the end of our meeting, we made it clear that it was we who were leaving the talks for financial reasons,” DaGrosa said.
