Relied on by Koeman, Griezmann wanted to leave Barcelona
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Antoine Griezmann apparently expressed his desire to leave Barcelona before Ronald Koeman gave a glimmer of hope regarding his position in the squad.
The president has reportedly offered Antoine Griezmann in exchange for Atletico Madrid star, Joao Felix. As reported by Marca, Griezmann’s release was related to Bartomeu’s desire to reduce the club’s large expenses to pay salaries.
Interestingly, Griezmann was brought in by Barcelona last season from Atletico for 120 million euros in accordance with the release clause. Receiving money from Barcelona, Atletico then brought Joao Felix from Benfica, worth 123 million euros.
Both players became world expensive transfers last season. However, Griezmann and Joao Felix’s salaries at their respective clubs are in stark contrast. Griezmann receives 18 million euros per year, while Joao Felix receives 3.5 million per year.
Marca reported that Bartomeu’s intention to release Griezmann was against Ronald Koeman’s plan. The Dutch coach is said to be giving Griezmann a bigger role.
Koeman thinks Griezmann has not been optimal so far as the previous coach has misplaced his position. Therefore, Koeman will provide a more ideal position.
Spanish media reported that currently Koeman already has a list of seven players who should not be touched on his team. And, Griezmann is one of the seven players.
