Remembering the 8-2 score, when Man United massacred the Gunners
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Manchester United appear superior to Arsenal in the third league Premier League. Playing at Old Trafford, ‘Red Devils’ won 8-2. The former Arsenal defender, Per Mertesacker, revealed the internal facts of the Gunners’ defeat.
It happened on August 2011 at Old Trafford in the initial Premier League match 2011-12. Man United, who is still managed by Sir Alex Ferguson, showed five-star performance through a party of goals scored by Danny Welbeck (22′), Ashley Young (28′ and 90 + 1′), Wayne Rooney’s goal hat (41′, 64′, 82′ penalty), Luis Nani (67′), and Park Ji-sung (70′).
Two consolation goals from Arsenal came from Theo Walcott (45 + 3 ‘) and Robin van Persie (74’). The situation worsened for Arsenal after Carl Jenkinson was given a red card by the referee on 77 minutes until the visitors played with 10 players.
The defeat was one of the historic matches in England between two rivals who competed fiercely over the Premier League title in the early 2000s. Good to tell for Man United fans, but not for Arsenal fans.
No one knows for sure what Arsene Wenger said after the defeat or Arsenal’s dressing room picture responded to the very embarrassing results. Seven years passed and Mertesacker spoke up.
Mertesacker, who had just arrived from Werder Bremen when Arsenal was crushed by United, described the great calm in the club’s dressing room. The defeat at Old Trafford gave a gap between Arsenal players with the public, fans, and reporters.
To avoid the negative aura after the defeat, the Arsenal players’ space to meet fans and the media was narrowed. In addition, the club only sends those who are not interested in the media to face press conference sessions or meet with news reporters.
“There is no feeling of tension, the crisis is left. Every negative thing is blocked – literally – because London Colney – Arsenal’s training center – does not accept fans or part of the media,” Mertesacker said, quoted from Dailymail.
“There is no normal interaction between players and people on the road, the arrays are difficult for you to be faced with different perspectives, you never see firsthand how big the club is for people and rarely do you talk to journalists.”
“At Arsenal, things are completely different. They don’t want everything to focus on one player. In fact, they prefer to send players who are not too interested in the media.”
Even though it is good to avoid negative aura, Mertesacker sees that Arsenal’s rules are not entirely good for player development.
“In the long run, preventing the public from getting normal access does not help the players. In fact, it creates a vacuum (vacuum) between them. A life like that is not good for one’s development,” added Mertesacker, who played for Arsenal from 2011 to 2018.
