Robert Lewandowski is the Best Attacker in the World
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Bundesliga top scorer in the 2019/20 season, Robert Lewandowski is “the best striker in the world”, said Bayern Munich chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Lewandowski scored a penalty in the second half when Bayern, who had been confirmed as champions for the eighth season in a row, defeated Wolfsburg 4-0 to finish their league campaign brilliantly on Saturday (27/6).
That makes Lewandowski’s goal this season to be 34 – six more than RB Leipzig’s mainstay player, Timo Werner – and it is also the best record of the Polish striker in Germany’s top competition.
This is the fifth time that former Borussia Dortmund player, Lewandowski ended up as Bundesliga top scorer and he is now chasing the record of Gerd Muller, a Bayern legend who finished as a top scorer on seven occasions.
Muller is until now the only player who can score more than 34 Bundesliga goals in one season, and this achievement was achieved on three separate occasions.
“To score 34 goals in a Bundesliga season is an extraordinary achievement,” Rummenigge told Bayern’s official website.
“Only ‘Der Bomber’, Gerd Muller, has scored more goals in a season.
“I want to congratulate and thank Robert Lewandowski. He is the best center forward in the world.”
Lewandowski’s impressive number of goals was achieved only from 31 appearances and it became his best average.
“Unfortunately I missed three matches this season,” added the 31-year-old player.
“I am thrilled with 34 goals, but of course I want to say thank you to the team.”
Lewandowski is now the third highest scorer in Bundesliga history with 236 goals.
Only two players – Muller and Schalke legend, Klaus Fischer – outperformed him for scoring in the history of Germany’s top competition.
Lewandowski can still shine for Bayern in the next few years, bearing in mind that he is under contract at the Allianz Arena until June 2023. He last signed a contract extension in August 2019 and with his neverending sharpness, he is ready to break record after record.
