Ronald Koeman Prefers to Train the Dutch National Team Over Barcelona
By db-admin
DBasia.news – National team manager, Ronald Koeman, made a confession that he had turned down offers to coach the Spanish giants, Barcelona. Blaugrana finally chose the former Real Betis manager, Quique Setien, to replace Ernesto Valverde.
The main reason Ronald Koeman refused the offer to coach his former club was because he was committed to the Dutch National Team.
“Yes it’s true, Barca have spoken to me, but I refused, as I have a commitment to remain in the Dutch National Team.” Said Koeman as reported by Diario Sport.
Koeman also commented on the performance of his player, Frenkie De Jong, who currently plays in Barcelona.
“I think his performance is quite good. He played in a different position than usual, but this was a technical decision. He is still very young, he can still learn a lot, but I think with me in the Dutch national team, the style of play is somewhat different. ” Said the former Everton manager.
According to Mundo Deportivo’s report in November. KNVB Director, Nico-Jan Hoogma stated that there was an option in Koeman’s contract stating that he could leave Oranje in the summer.
Koeman’s contract actually ends in 2022. But he had a clause that allowed him to leave the Dutch national team after Euro 2020 ended.
As a player, Ronald Koeman made 192 appearances for Barcelona, between 1989-95. He succeeded in bringing the Blaugrana 4 La Liga titles, and the European Cup in 1992.
