Ronald Koeman Promises to Give Attractive Games in Barcelona

DBasia.news – New Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman spoke to Barca TV about everything from his comeback to the club to the philosophy of football he wants to implement. Koeman wants Barcelona to play good football that can entertain fans.

Koeman (57 years) was appointed to coach Barca after the dismissal of Quique Setien after the 2-8 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League. The defeat emphasized the crisis in the Barcelona camp which also failed to defend the LaLiga title.

Among the many candidates for Barca coaches from Massimiliano Allegri, Xavi Hernandez, Mauricio Pochettino, to Laurent Blanc, Barca appointed Koeman. Not without reason that Barca chose him. Koeman, a former Barca defender from 1989-1995, is full of coaching experience.

In addition, Koeman’s background as a Dutch coach also influenced the election. It’s no secret that the philosophy of Barca football in the style of total football was developed by the legend from the Netherlands, Johan Cruyff who was also Koeman’s coach.

“Barcelona is like home to me. When I returned to the city before, something was missing, because I was not here to work at FC Barcelona. Now I am here as a coach and that makes me very happy,” said Koeman.

“The most important thing, whether you are a coach, a player or an employee at Barça, is knowing that you are the best club in the world. Nothing is better. We are all very fortunate to be part of this club.”

Koeman also knows there is an ‘obligation’ for Barcelona to entertain fans with attractive games and offensive football. The former Valencia and Everton coach is trying to make this happen.

“We have the best combination. We play attacking football and win titles. That’s always the philosophy we pursue at Barca,” added Koeman.

“We have to play good football that the fans will enjoy. But we have to win too, of course, that’s the most important thing,” he said.

Offensive play and dominating possession are important, but according to Koeman his team must also be disciplined and most importantly … enjoy the game.

“I am a coach who likes his team to have a disciplined and well-organized team. I like to dominate the game. The Netherlands likes attacking football. I like to talk directly and have good communication with my players. We have short meetings so that the message is clear,” added Koeman. “I think a good coach needs to enjoy football. We started playing football because we like this sport. And if you do everything with a smile on your face, that’s much better,” he explained.
