Rooney’s Disappointment As England Failed in World Cup
By news-admin
DBasia.news – Everton former player, Wayne Rooney, is disappointed as England failed to make it until the final round of 2018 World Cup. However, the player believed the Gareth Southgate squad will have a bright future.
England has to bury their dream after defeated by Croatia 2-1 during the semifinal round. In fact, The Three Lions was way ahead by the free kick of Kieran Trippier.
But, though failed to be the champion, England’s achievement during this World Cup shouldn’t be underestimated. Moreover, The Three Lions are full of young players.
“I think it was a great tournament for all the players, for Gareth Southgate, and a great tournament for England as a country, and for the fans,” Rooney told Soccerway.
“I said two years ago this team is an exciting team with a lot of talent. Let’s get behind them, support them,” he continued.
“I think the English fans have done that and the players have given them a great performance in the tournament. It’s a shame we didn’t get to the final where anything can happen. But I think all the players can be proud, the manager and his staff can be proud. Hopefully, they kick on from there in the next tournament,” said Rooney.
Meanwhile, England has to end the competition as the fourth position after beaten by Belgium 2-0 during the third position match in Saint Petersburg Arena, Saturday (15/8). Thomas Meunier and Eden Hazard scored two victory goals for Rode Duivels.
