Sad News, Former Inter Milan 1998 Manager Passed Away

DBasia.news – Sad news came from Italian football. Luigi Simoni, who has coached a number of clubs such as Inter Milan, Lazio and Napoli, died at the age of 81.

Simoni last breathed on Friday (5/22) local time, due to a stroke. He had undergone treatment at the hospital since the day before.

Simoni is known to have had a stroke since 2019. His condition has worsened in the past few days.

Simoni was born on January 22, 1939 in Crevalcore. During playing, he played a role as a midfielder and had time to strengthen Napoli, Torino and Juventus.

He hung up his boots in 1974 while defending Genoa. After that Simoni immediately turned into a coach at the same club.

Simoni’s best achievement as a coach occurred when handling Inter Milan in the 1997-1998 season. He delivered the Nerazzurri to the UEFA Cup title.

Not surprisingly, the Nerazzurri stronghold mourned the departure of Simoni. Moreover, the death of the coach coincided with the 10th anniversary of Inter won their third Champions League title.

“We remember Gigi Simoni and will lose everything about him. First and foremost is a polite way of life both in life and football. His football reflects that he is humble, functional, and able to take advantage of what he has,” the Inter expression of grief Milan.

The UEFA Cup trophy is the only title Simoni won when training. While playing, he won the 1962 Coppa Italia with Napoli.
