Sarri did not fit Cristiano Ronaldo’s project from the start

DBasia.news – Maurizio Sarri only lasted one season in Juventus’ coaching position. Saturday (8/8/2020) evening, the Old Lady officially announced Sarri’s dismissal, a decision that was expected but still surprising.

The first step of reform has been carried out by dismissing Maurizio Sarri from his position of coach. Next, ensuring that the superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo is still with Juventus. As reported by Reuters, Agnelli said he was very confident that Ronaldo would stay for next season.

Juventus crashed out of the Champions League after losing to the away goals rule after only winning 2-1 in the second leg of the top 16 tie against Olympique Lyonnais. Lyon qualified 2-2 on aggregate winning away goals.

Sarri, 61, has been in charge for one season and has received regular criticism despite leading Juventus to nine consecutive Serie A Scudetto title for La Vecchia Signora.

“The balance this season is clearly bitter,” Agnelli told Sky Sport Italia.

“The season has been challenging, we recorded an excellent page with the ninth title and especially with a coach who started from the amateur league to reach the highest point.”

“The Champions League is clearly a disappointment for us, the players and the fans. We will need a few days to evaluate everything and discuss how to progress next season,” stated Agnelli.

Despite dominating the domestic league, Juventus have not lifted the Champions League trophy since 1996. No wonder their ambition at this event is great.

“The Champions League has been a dream for us, but now it has to be a goal,” said Agnelli.

To pursue this target, Juventus are also willing to spend a lot of money to bring in a “senior” player, Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018. Agnelli believes that the 35-year-old star is the best player in Champions League history.

Because of that, Agnelli also ensured that Ronaldo would stay for the third and final year of his contract. “He is a pillar of Juventus,” continued Agnelli.
