Schalke’s Effort to Seize Top Position Failed because of Hoffenheim

By db-admin

DBasia.news –  Schalke 04 did not manage to win the top position in the German league table at the Prezero Arena on Sunday (10/20). Host Hoffenheim, who won 2-0 in the match, succeeded in blocking Schalke’s attempt to top the standings.

With a series of results obtained by the top six German League teams yesterday, Schalke has the chance to win the top spot if they can bring home three points. But the fact is, David Wagner’s troops must be stuck in the seventh rank.

Schalke dominates most of the game, but the chances of Daniel Caligiuri and Alessandro Schopf are not able to penetrate Oliver Baumann’s goal.

The host just kicked off in the last 20 minutes of the match. In the 71st minute, Ihlas Bebou moved across the midfield and past two Schalke defenders, who then fired a shot that keeper Alexander Nubel could keep off, but Andrej Kramaric was able to grab the bouncing ball to package the opening goal.

Hoffenheim doubled the lead five minutes before the long whistle sounded. Bebou received a long pass and defeated one of his guards, before firing a shot which Nubel failed to stop at the near post.

Cologne closed the eighth week by leaving the red zone, thanks to a 3-0 victory over the Paderborn caretaker team in a match played at the RheinEnergie Stadium.

Koln opened the victory in the eighth minute through a goal by Simon Terodde. The host must wait until the second half before he can add an advantage. Louis Schaub scored Koln’s second goal in the 59th minute, and Sebastiaan Bornauw scored the last goal of the match in the 85th minute.

This victory lifted Koln to 15th place for a while, while for Paderborn these results increasingly buried them at the bottom of the standings.
