Rangnick Revealed He Almost Bring Muller and Hummels to Hoffenheim

DBasia.news –  RB Leipzig’s sporting director, Ralf Ragnick, revealed that he almost secured the signings of Thomas Muller, Mats Hummels and Holger Badstuber while he was at Hoffenheim.

All happened when Rangnick coached Hoffenheim in mid 2006-2011. In addition to recruiting and launching young talents at Hoffenheim, Rangnick also almost recruited Muller, Holger Badstuber, and Mats Hummels.

The three of them were young and not yet famous in 2008. Muller was still playing in the Bayern and Badstuber reserve teams only a year later from his debut in the first team. Hoffenheim is only one step away from recruiting both but opposed by Bayern.

“In 2008, we agreed with Thomas Muller and his adviser Ludwig Kogl and really wanted to borrow it at that time,” Rangnick told Sport1.

“We can recruit Muller for 3 million euros. Uli Hoeness (President of Bayern) conveyed this amount to the manager at the time, Jan Schindelmeiser.”

“However, Hermann Gerland opposes that and Muller remains with Bayern. At that time we were also in further talks with Holger Badstuber,” Rangnick added.

In the end both of them remained at Bayern. Bastuber – who often suffered injuries – played at Bayern from 2009-2017 before leaving for Stuttgart. While Muller still stay at Bayern today.

Even so Hummels. The 2014 World Cup champion did not move to Hoffenheim and moved to Dortmund in 2009. Hummels did not want to undergo a loan period to Hoffenheim and went to Dortmund.

“Same with him (Hummels) in early 2008. We also want to take him on loan and there is an agreement,” Rangnick added.

“But Uli Hoeness put his feet with Hummels. He does not want him to be loaned out to Hoffenheim but to Dortmund,” he concluded.
