Sergio Ramos surpasses Gianluigi Buffon’s record
By db-admin
DBasia.news – The Switzerland vs Spain match was a milestone for Sergio Ramos. Although his two penalty executions failed, Ramos recorded a special score in that match.
The Real Madrid center-back will make his 177th appearance for Spain in the match in Basel. This record would make Ramos surpass goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon’s record, who has played 176 times for Italy.
At 34 years old, Ramos is also thought to be able to break the world record, which is currently held by Ahmed Hassan of Egypt who has won 184 caps.
Ramos is expected to break Ahmed Hassan’s record at Euro 2020, which will be held in June and July of next year.
“Unfortunately for me as a coach he has to have limits,” said coach Luis Enrique. “The amount can only be reached by those who are talented. He is a special player, on a unique level.
Luis Enrique has been criticized by the Spanish public for bringing in Ramos in the 85th minute in Amsterdam, so they think such a brief appearance will reduce the value of Ramos’ record.
“The first thing is to look after a player who has played more for Spain than anyone because of the calendar he has and because he plays every game for his club,” explained Luis Enrique.
“We want to give him the opportunity to continue adding to the international caps, but not create a big impact. The feeling within the squad remains the same regardless of whether Sergio plays one game more or less.”
Ramos made his international debut in Spain’s 3-0 win over China in 2005. At that time he came on to replace Carles Puyol.
