DBasia.news – Frenkie de Jong has been suffering from an injury and is rumored to be out until the end of this season. However, the rumor was immediately denied by Barcelona coach, Quique Setien.
Barcelona announced that De Jong has suffered a muscle injury in his right calf on Sunday (6/21/2020). The Dutch midfielder was also not played when Los Cules drew 0-0 against Sevilla in the Spanish League, Saturday (6/21).
The Blaugrana did not mention how long De Jong must be absent due to the injury. The uncertainty has caused rumors that the former Ajax Amsterdam player would be absent until the end of the season.
According to Omnisport, Setien has denied rumors that De Jong would have to be sidelined until the season ends. He is optimistic that De Jong can still play a few games with Barcelona before closing the competition.
“We do not expect that will happen. He has a small injury in the area of his calf and we will see how it develops,” Setien said as quoted by Omnisport.
“However, I am sure he will be able to play several matches. He is a complete player because he gives us a lot of things when we have the ball, he has the physique as well and is able to reach a lot of space,” Setien added.
“He is young, he has a dynamic, enthusiastic style, and has qualities. He learned many things that we have tried to improve,” he continued.
“It’s true that we had to lose him when he could have helped us a lot. We are a little disappointed that he’s unable to play, but we have to keep adapting to it. I still have confidence with other players who will fill his position,” concluded Setien.
