Spit on Olympique Marseille’s Defender, Di Maria Gets Suspended 4 Matches
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Almost two weeks ago, there was an incident at the Parc des Princes. At that time, the host Paris Saint Germain (PSG) lost 0-1 to Olympique Marseille in the 2020-2021 Ligue 1 season. A number of players were involved in the feud. One of them is Angel Di Maria. Three PSG players were sent off, while two Marseille players were also sent off.
Di Maria was not among those who were driven out. However, the PSG winger was caught spitting on Marseille defender Alvaro Gonzalez via video footage of the match. The Ligue 1 competition operator’s disciplinary commission, LFP, acts.
“Di Maria was banned from appearing in four matches,” the LFP Komdis decided as quoted from Batimes.com.ar, Thursday (24/9).
The penalties took effect on September 29. This means that the former Real Madrid can still defend Les Perisiens in the match against Reims.
The duel took place at Stade Auguste-Delaune II, Reims headquarters, Monday (28/9) in the morning WIB. After that the winger pulled over. Later on November 8, Di Maria can return to play for PSG in the French terelite competition.
A number of Parisien les players also felt the punishment. Neymar da Silva jr was even hit by a red card.
Neymar was caught hitting Gonzalez on the head. In his statement, the Brazilian star felt he had received racist insults from the defender.
The alleged racism case is currently being investigated. On September 30, Komdis announced the results of the investigation. Prior to that, Marseille had issued an official statement that Gonzalez had not done what Neymar alleged. According to Marseille, their club values equality and opposes racism.
So far, PSG defender Layvun Kurzwa has received the heaviest sanction. He was banned from appearing in six matches for kicking Marseille left-back Jordan Amavi.
PSG’s duel against Marseille is always hot inside and out. Similar to the duel with Ajax against Feyenoord or Barcelona vs Real Madrid. All of them get Classic Action labels in their respective languages.
Le Classique, the title of PSG’s match against Marseille, brings together the two biggest cities in Paris that represent two different poles. North versus South, a port city filled with manual labor against the center of government and a fashion city with perfumed workers. That is the image that was built from the duel between these two teams.
The meeting between the two got hotter since the early 1990s when Bernard Tapie became the owner of Marseille and the television station Canal + controlled PSG shares. The ‘feud’ of the two cities from different schools of thought has been strengthened through competition in the green field until now.
Even though it was global first, Marseille recently lost prestige to PSG which was supported by large funds from the consortium from Qatar led by Nasser Al Khelaifi.
