DBasia.news – England national team coach Gareth Southgate couldn’t send Manchester City player Raheem Sterling in the first match of UEFA Nations League against Spain, this weekend.
Sterling got a back injury. He left the training center at St George’s Park since Monday (3/8). Sterling’s absence was a great hit for Southgate.
Moreover, the substitute options for the 1/3 field is minimum since Jamie Vary retired. Furthermore, based on FA’s official announcement, the England national team won’t replace Sterling with another player.
“Raheem Sterling has withdrawn from the squad due to a problem with his back, with no immediate replacement planned,” read a Football Association statement.
As concerned, though many people doubt Sterling’s capacity in supporting the national team, he is irreplaceable for Southgate. Statistically, with The Three Lions Sterling just scored two goals from 44 matches.
Recently, the 23-year-old player failed to score any goal when England finished in the fourth position in the 2018 Russia World Cup.
However, Sterling’s report is still great at the club level. In the first four matches of City in Premier League, he scored two goals.
Here is the remaining squad after Sterling got injured:
Goalkeeper: Jack Butland, Alex McCarthy, Jordan Pickford
Back: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Harry Maguire, Danny Rose, Luke Shaw, John Stones, James Tarkowski, Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker
Midfield: Dele Alli, Fabian Delph, Eric Dier, Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana, Jesse Lingard, Rubem Loftus-Cheek
Front: Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Danny Welbeck
