Steven Gerrard Admits to Receiving Advice from Jurgen Klopp

DBasia.news –   Steven Gerrard, Liverpool legend, received advice from Jurgen Klopp regarding his coaching career.

Steven Gerrard, 39, had just started his coaching career for two years with the Scottish club, Rangers. On several occasions Gerrard had spoken to Klopp and asked for advice.

“The best thing I ever did was stay away from the (media) camera at first,” Gerrard said as quoted by Goal.

“I really spoke honestly and openly with Jurgen Klopp for several hours and the advice he gave me was ‘Don’t discuss this as Steven Gerrard with the name on your back’.”

“Go back to the beginning and let go of the wheels like a car. Get your confidence and get used to different tactics and formations. Try things, make mistakes and make terrible mistakes.”

Gerrard admitted that he learned a lot from Klopp who used to also undergo a career as a professional footballer. In addition he also learned a lot from ex-top players who became coaches but in the end was not successful.

“Experiment and do all these things away from the camera but before you test yourself in the Europa League, before you test yourself in front of thousands and thousands of fans – put yourself in a better position before you get in,” Gerrard added.

“Because I have seen many famous football players get in there (swerved into the world of coaching) and it didn’t work.”

“That is the best advice. I think I will never get better advice than that. Forget everything (while still playing) and start from the beginning.”

“I have made mistakes over the last few years as a Rangers manager but the trick is learning from it. But this is an impossible job not to make mistakes because you face other great coaches,” explained Gerrard.
