The Application of VAR is a Spotlight in the Forum for Coaches of European Elite Clubs

By db-admin

DBasia.news –  The use of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) was a highlight topic that was discussed in the Elite European Coaches forum which gathered several of Europe’s top clubs coaches on Tuesday (12/11) at dawn.

A number of top European coaches were present at the meeting such as: Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid), Pep Guardiola (Manchester City), Carlo Ancelotti (Napoli), Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool), Unai Emery (Arsenal), Maurizio Sarri (Juventus), Erik ten Hag (Ajax Amsterdam), and former Juventus coach, Massimiliano Allegri.

The use of VAR is still reaping the controversy in the application, the decision of the referee, especially in the Premier League, England, who have just applied it this season. According to Rudi Garcia, Olympique Lyonnais coach, the main referee must continue to lead the fight, not VAR.

“We want the referee to remain the leader of the match and VAR to be a tool to improve football,” said Rudi Garcia, coach of Olympique Lyonnais, quoted by Marca.

Regarding its application which has received a lot of criticism, Giorgio Marchetti (UEFA Director) and Klopp, agreed that VAR indeed still needs to be reviewed and developed to be even better in the future.

“This tool is still young (just used), it still has to be evolved, and (something) that should be able to help. It’s clear that it has to be refined and used (to be more) clear,” Marchetti added.

“VAR is one of the problems we have all talked about. (We are talking) how to develop it because it has to be done. You have to give time for its perfect operation,” Klopp added.

Other things discussed were issues related to handball when it occurred in restricted areas (penalty boxes). The discussion was to see how handball that resulted in a penalty or not in a match.
