The President of FIGC doesn’t want to be the gravediggers of Italian Football

Italian Football Federation (FIGC) President, Gabriele Gravina will continue to fight for the competition to resume. He made sure he would not become the gravedigger of Italian football.
Gravina claimed to be worried about the fate of football in Italy if the 2019-20 season competition could not be completed. As is known, the option to stop the competition began to appear by Serie A operators at the insistence of the Italian government.
“At the moment there are two sides of thought, the first is that all sporting competition activities must be stopped altogether, while on the other side is asking it to be continued,” Gravina stated
“I cannot become the Italian football gravedigger,” Gravina added.
Personally, Gravina hopes that Serie A can resume in June. “The concern is not if the season stops today, but if football is not continued there will be a negative impact in the future,” he said.
“I’m considering June. Hopefully in June we will feel a more relaxed condition, different from what is happening now,” Gravina continued.
Gravina acknowledged that the government had the right to stop the competition, but could be persuaded to continue.
“That is clearly their responsibility. Whatever their decision, I must accept. Imagine the fight that I feel right now,” he explained.
According to Gravina, the FIGC is currently proposing the continuation protocol of the competition to the Minister of Sports, Vincenzo Spadafora and the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza.
Gravina believes football will continue, as it has designed various detailed plans including holding routine checks with a number of health clinics who are willing to become partners.
Previously, the Italian Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, admitted that he was not considering the licensing of Serie A. For him, this time was not a priority.
“Seeing the number of deaths of more than 400 people per day, making football the last problem we will deal with. I say that with all due respect and as a football fan,” Speranza said.
