Match Postponed, Serie A is Expected to Restart in May

By db-admin

DBasia.news –  Chairman of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) Gabriele Gravina is hopeful the competition in his country, including Serie A, will be able to roll back on May 2 and end no later than July.

Serie A, like other professional sporting competitions in Italy, was suspended until April 3 due to the corona virus pandemic (Covid-19).

“I do not want to think that we will not restart, it will be a hiatus, it will be my concern for our country,” Gravina said.

“We are working on the hypothesis to restart on May 2 and finish the championship in July if we don’t finish it on June 30,” he added.

Gravina then stated that if the time span fails to be used, he plans to change the format of the competition.

He also welcomed the decision to postpone the European Cup until 2021, while revealing that the more important thing at present is the national leagues.

“We do not want to punish anyone, but as we evaluate changes to the schedule format over the timeframe, then UEFA must rearrange the Champions League and Europa League competition models,” Gravina stated.

Gravina’s estimation that football in Italy could continue in May was warmly welcomed by Italian Sports Minister, Vincenzo Spadafora.

“At least that is what we expect. We will judge whether it can be played with spectators or without,” explained Spadafora.
