Undergoing Knee Surgery, Marc-Andre ter Stegen Will Be Absent for Two Months
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Barcelona’s main goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen will undergo knee surgery due to a problem with the patellar tendon this season. This medical action was announced by Barcelona on Tuesday (18/8).
“Based on information from the medical team, first team player Marc ter Stegen will perform voluntary medical intervention tomorrow in his right patellar tendon,” the club said in a statement released by Reuters on Tuesday.
“This proactive action is now being taken to prevent and prepare for the future, as the player experienced some tendon problems at the start of the season,” read the same statement.
The German national team goalkeeper played 46 times for Barcelona in one season. Recently, Ter Stegen was humiliated after eight goals lodged into the net when Barcelona were defeated by Bayern Munich 2-8 in the Champions League quarter-finals last weekend.
However, Ter Stagen was still one of the players who performed brilliantly for Barcelona last season even though for the first time in 12 years the Catalonia club did not win a trophy in one season. Ter Stegen managed to keep 14 clean sheets in La Liga when Barcelona finished as runner-up.
Barcelona did not explain how long the 28-year-old goalkeeper will be out. Yet the new La Liga season kicks off in less than four weeks on 12 September. Barcelona’s current substitute goalkeeper is Neto, who has played four times this season and has kept one clean sheet.
