DBasia.news – The public is still surprised and wondering why Barcelona signed Kevin-Prince Boateng from Sassuolo. The transfer happened unexpectedly.
With all due respect to Boateng, the 31-year-old player isn’t a popular player in Europe like Alvaro Morata, Carlos Vela, and Gonzalo Higuain. Moreover, he is more than 30.
Certainly, Barcelona have the consideration when they decided to sign Boateng. One of them is the experience playing in Europe top leagues with Tottenham Hotspur, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, and Schalke.
Besides that, Boateng is a multifunction player that could be placed as the attacking midfielder, false nine, or in the attacking line. So, the West Berlin player would be ideal for Barca.
Boateng could be the option and rival for the main striker, Luis Suarez. He also fills the position left by Munir El Haddadi to Sevilla.
Barca coach Ernesto Valverde understands his capability and characteristic.
Apparently, Valverde also has the role behind Boateng’s quick transfer. Sport-English reported Valverde’s phone call to Quique Setien erased Barca’s doubt in signing Boateng.
As we know, Setien is the former coach of Boateng in Las Palmas, 2016-2017. Setien could maximize Boateng’s quality and placed him as the striker with 10 goals from 28 matches.
“Setien’s response was extremely positive and this won over Valverde. Boateng was a very professional player and is capable of producing his best performances in tough matches,” Sport-English wrote in their article.
Another interesting note is the fact that he met Barcelona 8 times and scored 2 goals. Now, Barca hope his capability would be seen, not as the contender, but as a team.
With the successful transfer of Boateng, Barcelona’s transfer movement this winter has completed. Previously, Blaugrana have signed Jeison Murillo to anticipate the injury of the center-back. Murillo was loaned from Valencia.
