Victim of the Modern Football Era, Marco Giampaolo Fired

By db-admin

DBasia.news –  Marco Giampaolo’s career finally had to come to and end in his position as AC Milan coach replacing Gernnaro Gattuso. It was disappointing as this dismissal was carried out less than four months since he took office.

Giampaolo, 52, was appointed by Milan as last season he was able to lift Sampdoria’s performance to compete in the top flight despite a mediocre squad. But after going through a series of minor periods, Milan had let go of Giampaolo.

“AC Milan announces that they had let go of Mr. Marco Giampaolo from his position as first team coach. The club is grateful to Marco for his work and wishes him the best in his professional career,” the club’s official statement said.

Seven Serie A matches, four defeats, and one win with a score of 2-1 against Genoa could not save Giampaolo’s career. Rumor has it, Milan will replace Giampaolo with former Fiorentina coach, Stefano Pioli.

Apart from whoever was appointed by Milan later, the dismissal of Giampaolo should not have happened. The legendary former coach of Milan, Arrigo Sacchi, once had spoken about it.

“Firing Giampaolo will be a double mistake: it will be the fault of club leaders and also a lack of respect for (coaches) professionals. We all have to be patient,” Sacchi said, as quoted by Calciomercato.

“There are so many young players and maybe some of them are still immature. Giampaolo has shown that he (the coach) is good, even with a team weaker than Milan. We all have to be patient, the Rossoneri are still a good team.”

For the umpteenth time, coaches fall victim to the demands of instant success in the modern football era. Giampaolo is not the only one. Last season Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari also felt it at Real Madrid.

Keep in mind, it took Giampaolo three years to develop Sampdoria (2016-2019). He was able to do so as he was given time, not much pressure, so that Sampdoria could understand the football philosophy he wanted.
