Winning Manchester City’s Appeal, Jose Mourinho says the CAS are outragous
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Tottenham Hotspur manager, Jose Mourinho spoke out over the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) which overturned UEFA’s sentence to Manchester City on Monday (13/7). Mourinho thinks the decision taken by CAS was outrageous.
CAS considered that Man City have not violated the rules of financial propriety (FFP) in the period 2012 to 2016 as conveyed by UEFA. As a result, The Citizens are able to compete in the European competition after being banned from appearing for the next two seasons.
“Consistency, I like clarity. I don’t like doubts,” Mourinho said, as quoted by the BBC on Wednesday (7/15).
Mourinho stressed that his opinion on FFP have not changed, as did the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). Both, he said, are good rules, but bad in their application.
Mourinho called the CAS decision an embarrassment. The reason, CAS continues to impose fines on City for assessing the rich club to be non-cooperative during the investigation process.
“From any point of view this is an outragous decision, because if City are not guilty they should not be fined,” Mourinho stated.
“If you are innocent, there should be no fines. If they are guilty, the decision is also clearly embarrassing because they should be banned from playing in Europe. I do not know whether City is guilty or not, but apart from that this is a disgraceful decision,” he added.
Furthermore, Mourinho suggested that the FFP should not need to be applied anymore, if only applied by UEFA but in the end would always lose when the team sues CAS.
“I think this is tweaking the FFP, as it has no meaning anymore. To be honest I want to see it being enforced properly.”
According to Mourinho, now people are talking about Manchester City, but in the past many other clubs have been in a similar situation.
“I think it’s better to just open the circus door and let everyone enjoy the show,” he concluded.
