DBasia.news – Barcelona coach, Ronald Koeman was unable to contain his pride at seeing Barcelona’s struggle in sealing tickets to the Copa Del Rey final for the 2020-2021 season.
Barcelona’s chance to advance to the top party seemed to have closed at 0-2 from Sevilla in the first leg of the semifinals. As if only a miracle could bring the Blaugrana to the final.
But the miracle really happened at the Camp Nou, Thursday (4/3) am, WIB. Barcelona was able to beat Sevilla 3-0 after extra time.
Barcelona started the match well after Ousmane Dembele was able to score a fast goal. But after that they had difficulty dismantling the Sevilla’s defense.
The 1-0 score for Barcelona’s superiority continued until normal time ended. This result was not enough to bring Barcelona to the final.
During injury time, luck seemed to have side with Barcelona. Antoine Griezmann’s cross was able to be headed by Gerard Pique against Sevilla to force extra time.
Martin Braithwaite then secured Barcelona’s victory with a header as the first half of extra time entered the fifth minute. A score of 3-0 or 3-2 on aggregate was able to be maintained by El Barca until the end of the match.
Koeman admitted that he was amazed by the performance and fighting power of his team in this match. He also emphasized that Barcelona deserved to advance to the final.
“We have struggled to the point of exhaustion, that’s incredible. I am very satisfied with the team work tonight, we deserved the win, “Koeman said after the match.
“We always believe, and we never throw the towel in the Copa. It’s a matter of mentality, and as a coach I can’t ask my team more than what I saw tonight.”
The victory over Sevilla should be a momentum for Barcelona’s awakening. They will also undergo another nearly impossible mission when they have to catch up with a 1-4 lag of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the second leg of the top 16 of the Champions League.
