About Liverpool’s Defeat, Klopp Can’t Blame the Busy Schedule
By db-admin
DBasia.news – RThe Boxing Day match (one day after Christmas) Liverpool vs Leeds United was postponed due to the corona virus that plagued the Leeds squad. In that situation the condition of the Reds squad should be fitter, but that was not shown against Leicester.
Playing at the King Power Stadium, Wednesday (29/12) early morning WIB, Liverpool were surprisingly made to die and lost 0-1 against Leicester to a goal from Ademola Lookman, a former Everton player in the 59th minute.
Liverpool dominated possession by 64 percent with a total of 21 attempted kicks (four on target), they even got a penalty which Mohamed Salah failed to convert into a goal. But in the end couldn’t score.
Uniquely, the condition of Leicester’s squad was not ideal with many players absent at the back and a few days before playing against Liverpool (League Cup) and Manchester City (Premier League).
No doubt the defeat was used well by English football pundit, Alan Shearer to criticize Jurgen Klopp who often complained about the busy schedule in the Busy Period in December. Klopp can no longer see it as an excuse.
“Man City are unrelenting in their good form but (Klopp) is right – it’s none of his business,” Shearer said as quoted by Dailymail.
“What will concern him is the way his team plays. He doesn’t really get an excuse to play two games in two days but his team is flat, they don’t play well.”
“They got into a good position but their last ball was bad. Yes, they missed a penalty; yes, they missed a chance with (Sadio) Mane.”
“But the Liverpool we’re used to watching play with energy, play dominantly, shut you down with intensity. We didn’t really see that.”
Another pundit, Thierry Henry, has even predicted a decline in Liverpool’s performance during the matches against Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester in the League Cup.
“There have been (bad) signs in the game against Newcastle and the Cup (League) against Leicester,” Henry added.
“Yeah, it’s not the same line-up – but against Tottenham there were signs they weren’t at their best. There was a strange kind of atmosphere and momentum. They just passed. Before that game, they killed the teams.”
