After defeating Chelsea, Everton hopes to get back up again

DBasia.news – Manager Carlo Ancelotti is thrilled that Everton was able to defeat Chelsea without conceding. This is expected to be a turning point in the rise of The Toffees.

Everton actually started the season in a superb manner when they have been unbeaten in the first five games, four wins and one draw. The top of the standings was controlled by the Merseyside team for several weeks.

However, the 2-2 draw against Liverpool is considered to be the beginning of Everton’s decline. After that, Everton had three successive defeats against Southampton, Newcastle United and Manchester United.

Another win over Fulham with a score of 3-2 last November 22, Everton was without a victory in the last two parties after a 0-1 defeat of Leeds United and Burnley 1-1.

The spotlight began to focus sharply on the team and especially Ancelotti as a manager, whether Everton was able to compete at the top or a sensation for a moment at the start of the season. The test came when Chelsea, who was on fire, visited Goodison Park, Sunday (13/12/2020).

The test was well passed when Everton were able to reduce Chelsea and win 1-0 through Gylfi Sigurdsson’s penalty in the 22nd minute. The three points that Everton have been waiting for, as well as their second clean sheet this season after the first week they defeated Tottenham Hotspur.

Moreover, it was won over a team that was considered a potential champion this season and is currently competing in the top four. Ancelotti hopes Everton’s luck can be even better.

“Very satisfied, of course. The first time we played in front of the supporters and we are satisfied. The performance and spirit was great. We defended well and maximized our counter-attacking ability. We deserved to win,” said Ancelotti on BBC Sport.

“We wanted to be clean, we just did it when we faced Tottenham in the first match. It’s quite strange considering Tottenham and Chelsea have good strikers. This means concentration is important to get it,” he continued.

“We do have some problems, not being able to reach the level of play like at the start of the season. We lost a bit of confidence, but after the game against Manchester United, the performance was better.”
