DBasia.news – Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, praised Harry Maguire’s performance in the match against Newcastle United this morning. Even the manager considered that MU’s big win in the match was inspired by the first goal scored by the captain.
In a match that took place at St James Park, Sunday (18/10) am, WIB, Manchester United won 4-1. However, these results were not achieved easily.
Manchester United were left behind when the game had only been running for two minutes. Luke Shaw scored an own goal after deflecting the ball from a Newcastle player.
The shadows of swallowing bad results has began to haunt Manchester United’s players. But it was at this moment that Maguire showed his role as captain.
Maguire was able to equalize in the 23rd minute. His header took advantage of Juan Mata’s corner kick tore into Newcastle net.
Manchester United finally secured the victory through three goals in the dying minutes. Bruno Fernandes, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Marcus Rashford successively found the Newcastle goal using a counter-attacking scheme.
“It’s a great result and great character to come back. To be led by a very inspiring captain,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.
“Harry scored and led by example, he showed good character. I’m happy for him because he’s had a few difficult weeks since last time playing for us.”
The bad results achieved by Manchester United at the start of this season have indeed made Maguire receive criticism. Many parties criticized the appropriateness of his high value which is contrary to the performance in the field.
The criticism to Maguire was getting heavier after receiving a red card while defending the England national team in the UEFA Nations League event. This penalty resulted in the defeat of The Three Lions at home to Denmark.
Maguire himself did not want to be conceited by the manager’s praise. He chose to focus on bringing Manchester United to victory in every match.
“When you play for this club and are beaten at home, we ask questions. We work hard in training and we know we have to bounce back,” said Maguire.
“We’re still a young team, but we’re not going to use that as an excuse. It’s disappointing to start like we did, but tonight was a big performance we really needed.”
The victory over Newcastle will certainly restore the confidence of the Manchester United players. This is the capital to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, the middle of next week.
