DBasia.news – Borussia Dortmund has dismissed their coach, Lucien Favre in his third year following a 5-1 home defeat to VfB Stuttgart. Edin Terzic, who previously served as assistant coach, will lead the team until the end of this season.
Dortmund surprisingly lost at Signal Iduna Park in Week 11 of the Bundesliga. Despite having 72% possession of the ball Dortmund lost badly and efficiently to Stuttgart which had 28% of the ball.
One goal from Gio Reyna (39 ‘) was countered by five goals from Stuttgart via two goals from Silas Wamangituka (26’ penalties and 52 ‘), Philipp Forster (60’), Tanguy Coulibaly (63 ‘) and Nicolas Gonzalez (90 + 1’ ). Stuttgart lost possession but scored five goals in 10 shots on target.
“We always try to play small through tight spaces and have a high rate of losing balls. If successful, it looks like a good style of football. But it rarely happens. It requires too much skill,” said Dortmund defender, Mats Hummels
“We didn’t play a good first half either, but we entered the break happy to have leveled at 1-1.”
Favre’s assistant coach, Edin Terzic, will reportedly lead the team to become a temporary coach against Werder Bremen. The Dortmund squad will be notified of Favre’s dismissal during the training session.
Favre previously coached Nice and came to Dortmund in 2018. In his first two seasons, Favre was highlighted but his position was still safe as he led Dortmund to finish as Bundesliga runners-up under Bayern Munich.
Under his tutelage, players such as Jadon Sancho, Gio Reyna, Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland developed. However, Favre is considered unable to formulate a balanced squad on the back and front lines.
Dortmund’s defense is not balanced with the strength of the front lines (seen when they lost 1-5 to Stuttgart). During his training, Favre Dortmund played 110 games, won 68 games, drew 17 and lost 25 times.
