Aiming for David Alaba, former midfielder says Liverpool doesn’t need a new defender

DBasia.news – Former Liverpool midfielder, Jason McAteer thinks the Reds does not need a new defender. The assessment was given in response to the Reds who are targeting Bayern Munich defender, David Alaba.
Liverpool has had problems after Virgil van Dijk was injured. The reason is, the Dutch defender has been the backbone.
One of the targeted players is David Alaba. Moreover, the 28-year-old player will be on a free transfer at the end of this season.
However, Liverpool did not need Alaba. The Reds are considered to still have many options even though Van Dijk is injured. Bringing Alaba is believed to only increase expenditure, but is rarely played.
“When Virgil van Dijk was injured, everyone started to panic saying Liverpool needed to present a high quality center-back,” claimed Jason McAteer as reported by FreeSuperTips.
“Jurgen Klopp remained calm and knows that if they sign a world class defender, like Alaba, you have to pay money, of course in this swelling market.”
“When everyone is fit, you have four defenders namely Alaba, Joe Gomez, Van Dijk and Joel Matip. Then, there is also Fabinho as a protector. When Klopp chooses his team, he can only choose two out of five. That way, he must have two players who have to be left out. “
Currently, Liverpool has other options at the back, namely academy graduate players, Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams. So, Klopp’s choices are actually quite a lot.
“Liverpool does not want to pay a lot of money for the salary of players who are unhappy because they are not in the squad. It has to be the right balance,” added Jason McAteer.
“Liverpool has enough players with real quality coming into defense. At the moment they don’t need another center-back.”
