DBasia.news – Arsenal fell behind to aggregate goals 1-3 from Stade Rennais (Rennes) ahead of the Europa League last 16-second leg which took place at the Emirates Stadium on Friday (3/15) early morning Western Indonesian Time.
The strength of Unai Emery’s squad in the last few Europa League matches has been slightly reduced because of the red card obtained by one of its flagship attackers, Alexandre Lacazette in the first leg of the last 32 against BATE Borisov, on February 15.
But now Arsenal fans can breathe a bit of relief because UEFA accepts the appeal submitted by the club while reducing Lacazette’s sanctions to not be allowed to appear in two matches. This then made the former Olympique Lyon player a chance to become Emery’s first choice against Rennais.
“The UEFA Control, Discipline, and Ethics Code issued on February 21, 2019, was amended as follows: Establishing sanctions for the ban on Arsenal players Alexandre Lacazette in two matches in UEFA competition,” the official UEFA statement said.
This news is, of course, a very profitable thing for the Gunners because they also have to pursue a goal deficit if they still want to compete and realize the target to win in the Europa League competition.
Alexandre Lacazette has become one of Emery’s mainstay players in the 2018/19 season, the Frenchman has collected 14 goals and eight assists in all competitions.
Unfortunately, although Lacazette is certain to be able to take part, Arsenal still cannot lower the best squad, because one of the team’s tough defenders, Sokratis Papastathopoulos will be sidelined because of getting a red card from the previous meeting.
