Although unbeaten, Egypt still fired El Badry
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Egypt on Monday dimissed coach Hossam El Badry despite his two-year unbeaten run with the national team. The dismissal came a day after Egypt drew 1-1 with hosts Gabon in the Africa zone of the 2020 World Cup qualifiers.
Egypt topped Africa’s World Cup qualifying Group F with four points from their opening two games, but the country’s football association said that they had terminated the coach’s contract after discussions “assessing” the team’s performance.
Egypt won 1-0 against Angola last Wednesday but national team captain Mohamed Salah was back in the squad for a game against Gabon where they picked up a point in the last minute.
The 61-year-old former coach of Cairo giants Al Ahly has been in charge since two years ago after replacing Javier Aguirre following hosts Egypt’s exit in the top 16 of the African Nations Cup finals and is in charge of 10 games with six wins and four draws.
He qualified Egypt in March to the next Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon in January.
