Andres Cantor, Special Football Announcer

By db-admin

DBasia.news – For those who like soccer from the screen, no presentation would be complete without an announcer. Even though the spoken words are not like those of a poet, this is something that needs to be attached.

It has been a long time since football matches were hosted by broadcasters. In fact, when looking at the inter-village tournament (tarkam), the commentator is one of the ingredients that makes the match more exciting.

To be a good match announcer, it does not only require qualified football skills. It takes characteristics that make it different from other publishers.

One of the most famous football announcers is Andres Cantor. The 57-year-old man is famous for scoring goals.

Andres Cantor is a famous football broadcaster. As proof of that, he was an announcer for almost 20 matches only at the 2018 World Cup.

It was the eighth consecutive World Cup for Andres Cantor. The first time Cantor had the opportunity to host a World Cup match television was in 1998 in France.

In the course of his career, Cantor has been an announcer for about 200 matches a year. For him, the World Cup is a different competition.

“The World Cup is a different championship. I always say it’s like 64 Super Bowls rolled into one month. There are a lot of emotions,” Cantor told CNBC.

Andres Cantor rose to fame when he received criticism from English linguists and football fans across the United States for his fiery demeanor at the 1994 World Cup in the United States.

“It was really impressed when the fans recognized you. It was so funny when people started screaming in front of you,” said Cantor with a laugh.

“Basically, I lost my identity. Many people know me by name, but people call: ‘Hey, you’re the Gol, right?’ So, let me change my last name to Mr. Goal.”

Cantor is not the first broadcaster to let out a 10, 15, and 20 second shout to alert the audience to a goal. It was a culture in Latin American football when Cantor was young.

However, Cantor was among the first carriages to bring the style to the United States. As his career took off, several criticisms hit him.

Andres Cantor took the path as a football announcer with no ease. He auditioned for the Spanish International Network (now Univision) in 1987.

Andres Cantor was unsure of the path to be taken. However, before taking a U-turn, an opportunity came. Andres Cantor was tested to broadcast two matches.

“When the goal came, I said ‘Goal!’ I started screaming and the guy noticed. He liked my style and offered me a full job offer within 72 hours.”

Several years later, Andres Cantor still relied on his way of pronouncing goals as a weapon. However, after several years of screaming, Andres Cantor faced voice health problems.

“I was an announcer at the 1990, 1994 and 1998 World Cups. That means there are 50 games a month. The voice got really heavy. So I took a vocal course with the voice coach Gloria Estefan used.”

Today, to maintain the quality of his voice, Andres Cantor drinks herbal teas which are popular in Argentina and honey.

For Andres Cantor, his uniqueness in referring to the goal style for a long duration does not have a specific formula. Usually, Andres Cantor says the goal will be longer if the player scores against the big team or near the end of the match.

At the 2015 Women’s World Cup, Andres Cantor spent 38 seconds chanting the goal words after Carli Lloyd scored a hat-trick from midfield against Japan.

“It depends on how much air is in my lungs. Sometimes, I comment on games with passion and intensity. The goal in the 90th minute makes me very tired. I never set the time. It’s just based on the importance of the goal which I shouted,” said Andres Cantor.

Towards the ninth World Cup, Andres Cantor hopes to create many important goals, especially from his home country, Argentina. Cantor had a simple answer when asked which goal would make him scream for a long time: “For Argentina and Lionel Messi.”

Andres Cantor is part of football history. Although not in the field, Cantor is the eyes and ears of the audience in front of the screen. Thanks to his way of chanting goals, Andres Cantor has succeeded in bringing excitement on the field to various parts of the world.
