DBasia.news – Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, Angel Di Maria, revealed that he had torn a letter from Real Madrid that prohibited him from appearing at the 2014 World Cup final.
Angel Di Maria suffered a muscle injury in the 2014 World Cup quarter-final match against Belgium. The injury had the risk of becoming worse if the midfielder continued to play.
Real Madrid, who have been monitoring James Rodriguez to replace Di Maria, are worried they will not be able to sell the player if his returns with a long injury. Not surprisingly, El Real sent a letter believed to contain a request to Di Maria not to defend the Argentine national team.
“I suffered an injury in the match against Belgium. My feet were not in good condition. However, I wanted to play in the final,” said Di Maria as reported by Telefe.
“I don’t care if I can’t play football anymore. In fact, that is one of the things they say can happen, but for me, it is the World Cup final. That is my final.”
“When I got a letter from Real Madrid, I could already imagine it. Without opening it, I tore the letter,” he added.
“I didn’t want to read it, or even see it. The person who has to make the decision whether to play or not is me.”
Despite ignoring the letter, Di Maria was unfit to appear and only watched from the bench when Argentina was defeated by Germany in extra time.
Then, Real Madrid sold Angel Di Maria to Manchester United a few weeks after. After that, he joined PSG in 2015.
