Anthony Martial is still given a chance to lay at Manchester United
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Anthony Martial was reportedly included in Manchester United’s selling list this summer. But the French striker appeared to have been given one last chance.
Martial was brought in by Manchester United from AS Monaco in the summer of 2015. His transfer fee reached 58 million pounds.
Martial immediately scored on his debut match against Liverpool. Unfortunately, his performance experienced ups and downs after that.
The arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku hampered Martial’s development at Old Trafford. His playing times were significantly reduced and he was shifted to the winger position.
Martial seemed to have found his playing maturity when he scored 23 goals and 12 assists in the 2019-2020 season. Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also gave him the responsibility as the main spearhead last season.
But Martial failed to answer that belief. He was only able to score seven goals and nine assists from 36 matches in all competitions.
This inconsistent appearance has made Martial criticezed. Moreover, he also began to often be absent due to injury.
Martial’s decline in performance of course also made Solskjaer disappointed. This is where the rumors of Martial’s sales arose.
Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur are serious fans of Martial. Both clubs does need a new spearhead to replace the roles of Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane.
But Martial still seems to be in Solskjaer’s plans. At least for the 2021-2022 season.
Martial has the potential to even fill a post on the front lines in the Premier League opener against Leeds United, this weekend. That’s after Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani are still struggling with injuries.
Martial’s Motivation
Martial is aware this season could be his last chance to answer Manchester United’s trust. Therefore he is ready to prove his quality.
“With the season I had last year, I’ve done my best to make sure I’m back in the best shape I can,” Martial told the club’s official website.
“I feel much better after five long months. Coming back with the team and training with them again, I really feel a great improvement.”
Martial has not been able to score a single goal throughout this pre-season. This makes the burden even heavier to carry out the responsibility as the spearhead of Manchester United’s mainstay.
