DBasia.news – Antonio Conte name was hailed when Chelsea won the 2016-2017 Premier League. But his fate changed drastically in the 2017/2018 season. The management criticized him for just bringing Chelsea as the fifth rank. It means Chelsea failed to get the ticket to the Champions League this season.
Conte was fired on July 13, 2018, though he brought Eden Hazard and friends as the winner of 2018 FA Cup by defeating Manchester United with a 1-0 score. One day after, the management announced the recruitment of the coach of Italy Serie A team, SSC Napoli, Maurizio Sarri.
Once doubted of his capacity, Sarri unexpectedly brought Chelsea to reach the perfect result this season. In the Premier League, the team gained 12 points from four matches.
Chelsea defender Antonio Ruediger praised the talent of his new coach. He thinks Chelsea are better under Sarri compared to Conte. As concerned, Ruediger joined Chelsea last season from AS Roma. Hence, he knew exactly the comparison between Sarri and Conte, both came from Italy.
Maurizio Sarri
Ruediger admitted that he knew the character of the squad under Sarri when he was in the Serie A. Sarri’s instruction for the squad to possess more ball is his favorite.
“He wants us to press high compared to last season when everyone knows we sat back. Now it is different.”
“We create a lot of chances and for me, that’s very good. Mostly, he likes the defenders to play the ball short and keep possession. I have shown so far I can do it but I want to improve every day. He is a coach who is not happy, he is always saying you can do better, and that keeps you alive,” Ruediger said.
Furthermore, Ruediger was surprised with the achievement this season. He predicted Chelsea will face a difficulty because some of the players went to the 2018 Russia World Cup.
“To be honest, I’m surprised how well we’ve done because players like Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante had big World Cups and came back late for training. They are in good shape and that’s impressive,” Ruediger revealed.
