By db-admin
DBasia.news – Boxing Day was a blessing for Arsenal. Once considered useless, Arsenal finally showed off their achievements in defeating Chelsea, who were their London rivals, Sunday (27/12) am, WIB.
Arsenal were on the edge at the match. In the last 11 matches, Arsenal only reaped three wins. Naturally, Mikel Arteta’s troops only finished 15th in the standings before the match.
Apparently, these results were a trigger for Arsenal’s enthusiasm to win. By relying on Alexandre Lacazette and Gabriel Martinelli on the front lines, Arsenal played nicely against Chelsea.
On the other hand, Chelsea, who had the upper hand, played in a 4-3-3 formation. Frank Lampard provided confidence in the deadly trident position to Timo Werner, Tammy Abraham, and Christian Pulisic.
Arsenal already threatened Chelsea’s goal in the first minute. Starting from the failure of Thiago Silva to clear the ball, Martinelli fired a shot. Luckily for Chelsea, the ball was wide.
Chelsea replied in the 22nd minute. Kurt Zouma welcomed Mason Mount’s cross from the right. However, the French player’s header was still high over the crossbar.
In the 31st minute, Chelsea had another golden opportunity. However, Mount’s shot that used Pulisic’s pass was wide to the right of the right post.
Disaster for Chelsea occurred in the 33rd minute. The referee pointed to the spot after Reece James dropped Kieran Tierney in the forbidden box.
Lacazette, who ran as an executioner, did a good job. He fired a low, hard shot into the bottom right corner. Chelsea goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy, did not move.
Arsenal closed the first half with a 2-0 lead after Granit Xhaka scored a free kick in the 44th minute. The ball from Xhaka’s kick slid into the top right corner of the goal.
Two goals behind, Lampard brought on Jorginho and Callum Hudson-Odoi at the start of the second half. The hope is that Chelsea’s attack power would be fresher and more deadly.
However, in reality, Chelsea were still under Arsenal’s pressure at the start of the second half. Arsenal scored the third goal in the 56th minute.
Bukayo Saka fired a shot from the edge of the area which Mendy failed to block. Arsenal were on the lead 3-0.
The Gunners continued to create two opportunities through Lacazette and Bukayo Saka. Luckily, Chelsea’s goal was not torn from the two opportunities.
Chelsea’s pursuit of victory showed results in the 85th minute. The referee approved Tammy Abraham’s goal after using VAR.
The goal made Chelsea even more excited. As a result, the Blues received a penalty after Mount was violated in the box in the 90th minute.
Unfortunately, Jorginho, who ran as executor, failed to carry out his duties perfectly. Jorginho’s shot to the left was well read by Bernd Leno.
Until the end of the match, Arsenal maintained a 3-1 advantage against Chelsea. The Gunners also rose from complicated results.
