DBasia.news – Arsenal are spending massively on the transfer market this summer. According to Josh Kroenke, the son of the club’s owner (Stan Kroenke), the Gunners have shopped heavily due to the humiliating defeat from Chelsea in the Europa League.
At that time, Arsenal were defeated 1-4 from fellow London team rivals. The day after the match took place in Baku, the club’s management held a meeting with Unai Emery, Arsenal’s manager, and Kroenke asking Arsenal to be aggressive in the summer transfer market.
“When the second half of the match has been determined (the winner is Chelsea), understanding our position and some targets during the summer from a transfer standpoint, we have to think again about our strategy based on the last 45 minutes,” Kroenke explained at Standard Sport.
“My main message to Vinai (Venkatesham, Arsenal Director) and Raul (Sanllegi, Head of Football), while returning from Baku on the plane and then throughout the meeting all day the next day with them and Unai is, Let’s be aggressive and find out who is could be (recruited) ‘. “
“This summer, even though we were not in a strong position after the match in Baku, I think there are only a few players who think Arsenal still have an aura (an appeal like the past).”
Although Arsenal have recruited Dani Ceballos, Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba, Kieran Tierney, Nicolas Pepe, and David Luiz, Kroenke did not cover the chance of Arsenal spending more players in January 2020.
“The transfer market is evolving, alive, and growing. We identify key targets, try to work out an agreement and over time we can complete it,” Kroenke added.
“For January, I don’t want to think there too soon. We have to evaluate a number of things in the short term and find an area that we can develop, so when January arrives we will be back active.”
Kroenke hopes the club owner’s commitment can make Arsenal fans happy, especially to be able to increase the club’s level of play who last became the Premier League champion in 2004.
“We only have the biggest ambition. I can only imagine what it’s like in the Champions League final after the match in Baku. Our target is to return (to the Champions League) and win the Premier League,” Kroenke explained.
“We had just started and hopefully, we will start to gain more trust (from fans) with the work we continue to do. Emirates will always be a special place for me and my family. I am enthusiastic here and I hope it lasts a long time,” he concluded.
