DBasia.news – Arsenal’s players shopping rod in the summer transfer window was closed with the success of recruiting Chelsea defender, David Luiz. Arsenal prefered Luiz over Daniele Rugani, the Juventus defender.
In terms of age, Rugani is seven years younger than Luiz and also has international experience. So, why would Arsenal prefer a 32-year-old defender over Rugani?
According to the Calciomercato report, Arsenal were originally going to prioritize the transfer of Rugani after losing Laurent Koscielny to Girondins Bordeaux. However, Arsenal was not able to soften the heart of Juventus management.
Reportedly, Arsenal have held several meetings with Juventus directors. An agreement has failed to be reached and Juventus always confronted the options offered by Arsenal, whether it was permanent (but the price did not match) or to loan with a purchase option.
As a result, Arsenal has searched for other options. Incidentally, Luiz suddenly wanted to move to Arsenal and was absent from Chelsea’s training session. The Brazilian player felt that there was no future at Chelsea.
Moreover, Frank Lampard, the Chelsea manager, sees it as poison in the locker room. Luiz also failed to compete with Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen. As a result, Luiz moved to city rivals and was purchased for eight million pounds.
Experienced, qualified, eager to join Arsenal, Unai Emery’s team no longer needed a reason to recruit Luiz. Especially, Luiz has worked with Emery at PSG (Paris Saint-Germain).
Luiz became Arsenal’s sixth recruit this summer after the club brought in: Gabriel Martinelli, Dani Ceballos, William Saliba (on loan at AS Saint-Etienne), Nicolas Pepe, and Kieran Tierney.
