Arsenal Legend Doesn’t Like Granit Xhaka Becomes Captain of the Gunners
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Arsenal is looking for a new captain after Laurent Koscielny left to Girondins Bordeaux. Unai Emery, the Arsenal manager, voted to elect a new captain.
Surprisingly, the vote between players chose Granit Xhaka to be the captain of the London Cannon, and Emery also officially appointed him as permanent captain. The Spaniard is said to have made the wrong decision because Xhaka was considered unable to become a leader at the club from the city of North London because he was still experiencing performance inconsistencies.
In fact, he had received sharp criticism after being the main cause why Tottenham Hotspur received a penalty after breaking Son Heung-Min in the forbidden box.
Gunners legend Martin Keown was disappointed with Emery’s decision to appoint Xhaka as captain. The 53-year-old man felt that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the right person to be the captain.
“This is a surprise and I think Emery made a mistake. This will divide the supporters. Because the role of Xhaka is often invisible and could give prizes (to the Spurs),” Keown was quoted as saying from Goal.
“Surprisingly, especially last week he was just scorned by supporters off the pitch. I might choose Aubameyang. He did a good job here and he was safe in the team, he was the right person.”
Previously one of the former Arsenal players, Paul Merson also did not agree if Xhaka became captain and Merson suggested that the new player, David Luiz, who deserved to wear it.
