Arsenal often sign players at the transfer market deadline
By db-admin
DBasia.news – The winter transfer market deadline is just around the corner. Many surprises can occur during the transfer market, including the potential for a large amount of money to be able to bring in the players needed.
Arsenal is one of the clubs that is still active ahead of the transfer market deadline. So far, the Gunners have recruited two players, namely Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior, and have been linked with one more player.
Arsenal are still competing for the Premier League and Europa League titles so they need additional players. The potential transfer at the deadline involved Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder, Moises Caicedo, who had rebelled not to join team training so he could leave.
No doubt Arsenal can spend more than 48 million pounds (a combination of Trossard and Kiwior) on the transfer deadline. There’s no need to be surprised if Arsenal recruit players on deadlines because that’s nothing new for them. Here are some examples:
1. Denis Suarez
In the 2018-2019 season, when Arsenal were coached by Unai Emery, the Spanish coach needed additional players. Denis Suarez was also on loan from Barcelona in the hope that he could adapt quickly given that Spanish was the connector.
Suarez in the end only appeared six times due to injuries he obtained during his time at Arsenal, a total of only 95 minutes of play. Suarez didn’t play much after the start of March and then returned to Barcelona. Now 29 years old and playing at Celta Vigo.
2. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
A rare case with Arsenal’s successful winter signings. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is practically Arsene Wenger’s last signing and legacy at Arsenal. Aubameyang was brought in for 60 million pounds from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.
During his time at Arsenal he scored 92 goals in 163 matches and won the FA Cup. Unfortunately, at the end of his career, the Gabonese striker did not do well at Arsenal with his fractured relationship with Mikel Arteta. While at Barcelona, Aubameyang (33) is now defending Chelsea.
3. Andriy Arshavin
The Arsenal sensation was signed at the transfer deadline in January 2009 from Zenit Saint Petersburg, not long after Andriy Arshavin’s fine showing for the Russian national team at Euro 2008.
Viewed as a whole Arshavin is not a successful recruit as he only scored 23 Premier League goals during his four years at Arsenal. Arshavin returned to Zenit in 2011 on loan before being released permanently.
Despite not being successful, Arshavin’s moment will always be remembered when he scored four goals against Liverpool at Anfield which ended 4-4.
4. Nacho Monrea
Not a big signing but quite useful as he adds quantity to the left back position. Nacho Monreal was signed for 10 million pounds in January 2013 from Malaga and played at the club for six years.
Monreal played 251 times for Arsenal and despite being part of a more frequent rotation, Monreal helped the club win three FA Cups before returning to Spain and joining Real Sociedad in 2019. In 2021 Monreal retired.
