DBasia.news – Arsenal are looking forward to a new season in the transfer market this summer. The Gunners recruited left-back from Benfica, Nuno Tavares who was plotted as a competitor as well as a back-up for Kieran Tierney.

“Nuno Tavares has joined us from Benfica on a long-term contract. The 21 year old defender developed from Benfica’s youth system, making his debut at Benfica B in October 2018, before breaking into the first team,” read a statement on Arsenal’s official website.

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager admits his team has been monitoring Nuno Tavares for some time. The hope is that Tavares can increase the strength of the team and become an additional option for the left side of Arsenal’s defense.

“He is a promising young player who has developed well with Benfica in recent seasons and has also shown his qualities by being part of Portugal’s Under-21s,” said Mikel Arteta.

“The arrival of Nuno will give the squad extra strength and options in defence, especially with this energy on the left side of the pitch. We look forward to Nuno’s arrival soon, his integration into the Arsenal family and playing in front of our fantastic supporters.”

Tavares has made 41 appearances in all competitions for Benfica since making his professional debut in 2019, including coming on as a substitute in the top 32 of the Europa League against Arsenal last February.

Fast, strong in defense, and actively building attacks are the strengths in Nuno Tavares. Arsenal sporting director Edu also welcomed his arrival.

“Nuno is a talented young player who is being targeted by clubs across Europe. He will provide a strong assist at left back,” added Edu.

“We look forward to him growing and developing with us and becoming an important member of the first team.”
