Arsenal’s Unique Way in Choosing a New Captain

By db-admin

DBasia.news –  According to Rob Holding, Arsenal’s young defender, the Gunners have voted to determine a new captain.

The players have chosen their captain in quite unique manner, although Manchester City did the same thing when choosing David Silva as captain to replace Vincent Kompany. Arsenal did the same.

The Gunners have done so since last season, when Unai Emery selected five Arsenal captains: Laurent Koscielny, Petr Cech, Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka, and Mesut Ozil. However, the three names mentioned first have left.

Xhaka became the team captain this season replacing Koscielny, but not permanently. The voting was again carried out by Arsenal players. Holding, who performed well when Arsenal won 5-0 over Nottingham Forest in the League Cup, was one of the candidates.

“We have voted before (regarding the Arsenal captain), so we will see what happens and see who is appointed,” Holding said, as reported by the US.

“(We must) write the names of the choices and then give them to the manager. He will observe everything, obviously, with his input and then we will see what will happen.”

“I don’t know (the Arsenal captain’s decision will be announced). I think it will happen in the next few days or weeks. I’m not sure,” continued the former Bolton Wanderers defender.

Holding became Arsenal’s captain when Mesut Ozil was pulled out in the match against Nottingham. If later he is chosen to be one of the captains, the 24-year-old center-back claimed he would be honored to wear the Arsenal captain’s armband.

“I would be thrilled to be captain and become captain of Arsenal, it feels really hard to believe, this feeling is great. We will see what happens over the next few weeks. If I receive it, I will be even happier,” added Holding.

“When I am told that I would be the deputy captain then it would be an honor. When Mesut was replaced, I knew I would receive the captain’s armband, so this was a great moment for me,” he concluded.
