Arsene Wenger is a True Music Lovers

Arsene Wenger came to the 2019 Legends of Football award on Monday (30/9). The event was spearheaded by Geoff Shreeves from Sky Sports to celebrate the careers of several managers and players. 

Starting since 1996, Legends of Football has given awards to several great names such as Sir Alex Ferguson, Clough, Pele, John Charles, Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Robson, Kenny Dalglish, Alan Shearer, Jose Mourinho, and Eric Cantona.

This time, Arsene Wenger entered the list. In fact, Wenger will be an ambassador for Legends of Football and Nordoff Robbins.

If Legends of Football is held to give appreciation to footballers, Nordoff Robbins is a charity that focuses on music therapy in the UK. Later, people who are vulnerable and isolated will get therapy through music.

Remarkably, through the Legends of Football event has collected funds of 8 million pounds to donate to Nordoff Robbins.

Of course, the election of Arsene Wenger as Nordoff Robbins ambassador is not without reason. Wenger is considered a figure who has a common thread between football and music. 

“When I was young, I liked the Beatles, they were a revolution. Today, I still love the Beatles because of its simplicity and it’s similar to football. Their music sounds very simple. Maybe that’s why their music lasts so long,” said Wenger as reported Sky Sports.

In addition to the Beatles, Wenger also admires the work of Bob Marley. According to him, the music that was delivered by Bob Marley was full of calm and philosophy of life.

“Yes, I have said Bob Marley many times. There is something in his life that is a symbol of music. He loves football. He enjoys life.”

“When you see his video playing football, he is more than great at playing with the ball, isn’t he? He is more than fit with the ball. I like the combination of football and music,” explained Wenger.

According to Wenger, football and music are two things that cannot be separated. Both of these can make people express themselves.

“These two things talk about emotions. I think music has the capacity to regulate your emotions into sound. Meanwhile, football has the ability to express your body about what the mind wants,” said the manager.

Wenger said, better understanding the close relationship between music and football when he was in England. Wenger claimed to often hear music before the match.

“It was surprising when I came to England. I believe England is a country of football and music,” said Wenger.

“When in France, the locker room was very quiet. They concentrated and did not talk. Even in Japan.”

“Then, I came to England and there was music everywhere before the match. It was fantastic and I liked it. I didn’t try to reject it.”

Furthermore, Wenger considers the song belonging to the Queen band, We Are the Champions, very suitable to describe his career. Wenger considers the song has a close relationship with football.

“We Are the Champions. I think the song speaks for every soccer player. The song is made perfect for football,” Wenger said.

Currently, Arsene Wenger is still unemployed after lifting his foot from Arsenal. The 69-year-old man claimed to be interested in managing Manchester United.
